Dream Water Quick Summary

Dream Water powder and sleep shot both have good sleep aid ingredients like Melatonin. But the other ingredients GABA and 5-HTP are not well-supported by research as an effective sleep aid. There’s a potential for unwanted side effects due to the confusing Dream Water dosing in the proprietary blend.

If you want an effective sleep aid with natural ingredients and minimal side effects, check out our best sleep aid review.

Dream Water Reviews | What is Dream Water

Dream Water is a natural sleep aid that comes in a liquid shot or powder form to help you relax and wake up rejuvenated. It markets itself as zero-calorie and TSA compliant, so you can take this sleep aid when you travel to combat jet lag.

Dream Water claims to help you:

  • Feel more relaxed
  • Promote restful sleep
  • Wake up without grogginess

Dream Water also claims that its fast-acting liquid sleep supplement form provides better absorption and is non-habit forming compared to other sleep aid prescriptions.

This sleep water sounds pretty good, but can Dream Water really help you sleep better?

In this review, we’ll go more in-depth about the Dream Water ingredients, side effects, where you can buy it, and reviews.

Dream Water Ingredients

The three main Dream Water sleep ingredients are GABA, Melatonin, and 5-HTP.

However, these ingredients are included in Dream Water’s Fast-Acting SleepStat Natural Blend which is a proprietary blend. This is already a huge red flag for us.

What’s a proprietary blend? A proprietary blend is a mix of ingredients that get rebranded and labeled as one big dose.

Why are proprietary blends bad? Supplement companies use proprietary blends as a way to cut costs and make a profit. They don’t reveal the amount of each ingredient in the blend so you don’t know if you’re getting a lot of a weak ingredient or too little of a good ingredient.

We’ll talk about what each of these ingredients are and what they can do to promote sleep and relaxation.

GABA (Gamma-aminobutyric Acid)

GABA is an amino acid in your brain that acts as a neurotransmitter to block certain brain signals and reduce activity in your nervous system.

Even though GABA is a naturally occurring chemical, it’s not widely available in food sources other than fermented food, which is why GABA supplements are gaining popularity.

How GABA works is that it attaches itself to a receptor in your brain that causes a calming effect. It can also help relieve anxiety, stress, and improve mood.

However, there is very little research supporting the effectiveness of GABA. The studies on GABA and its relaxation-inducing effects were done with a small group of participants.

Even though the results of those studies showed GABA to be effective, it is still uncertain if the GABA ingredient in Dream Water will work or how much you need since it hasn’t been thoroughly researched.

Melatonin

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone in your body that is often associated with sleep. It works to help you fall asleep by relaxing your body before bed.

When the day starts to get dark, your brain responds by producing melatonin to work with your circadian rhythm and let your body know it’s time to sleep.

Then the melatonin binds itself to receptors in your brain to decrease nerve activity to help your body calm down and relax. Research shows that melatonin can aid in reducing the time it takes you to fall asleep as well as treat symptoms of jet lag.

This is a good ingredient to have in Dream Water to help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

5-HTP

5-HTP is an amino acid that your brain uses to convert into serotonin, a neurotransmitter that causes feelings of happiness. Having low serotonin levels are often associated with sleep disorders, depression, and anxiety.

Supplementing 5-HTP can help promote sleep by increasing melatonin production.

There is only one human-based study to support that 5-HTP combined with GABA significantly reduced sleep onset, improved sleep duration, and quality.

Other studies that support 5-HTP for better sleep quality were all done with animals and insects, so there is little evidence to support how effective 5-HTP is for humans.

This is a good Dream Water ingredient, especially since it would be more effective with GABA, but there is not enough research to show it works well for humans.

Dreamwater Ingredients Summary

Overall the ingredients in Dreamwater are okay for sleep and relaxation, but they aren’t well-supported by research.

Melatonin is an effective sleep aid ingredient, but it is recommended to take the lowest dose of it to help you fall asleep because too much of it will cause side effects.

5-HTP is a good ingredient, however, there was only one study on 5-HTP that was done on humans. There isn’t enough research to support that it has sleep aid effects for humans.

GABA is the least researched ingredient in Dream Water. Study results are mixed and despite some successful results, it’s still uncertain how much GABA is needed as a sleep aid.

Since some of these ingredients aren’t well-supported, we would be skeptical about their effectiveness and be wary of any potential side effects that could occur.

What Does Dream Water Taste Like

Dream Water comes in two flavors: Snoozeberry and Nighttime Nectar.

Mixed customer reviews have stated that the Snoozeberry has a very pleasant berry flavor and some have said that it tastes sickly sweet like artificial cough syrup.

Some customers seem to prefer the Dream Water taste of Snoozeberry over Nighttime Nectar.

Dream Water Side Effects

The Dream Water Sleep Shot labels state the following doses:

  • GABA (135mg)
  • Melatonin (5 mg)
  • 5-HTP (10 mg)

The Fast Acting SleepStat Blend is dosed at 150 mg so these amounts make sense.

If you take Dream Water Sleep Powder, it lists each ingredient dose under the Fast Acting SleepStat Natural Blend.

The Dream Sleep Water Powder doses are the following:

  • GABA (65mg)
  • Melatonin (2.5 mg)
  • 5-HTP (7.5 mg)

We’re suspicious that there are filler ingredients in their 150 mg proprietary blend, which could cause unwanted side effects if you don’t know what’s in the blend.

Some potential side effects of using Dream Water include:

  • Nausea
  • Drowsiness
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Stomach upset
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache

It seems as though the Dream Water Sleep Shot has twice as much of the ingredients for some reason, despite both types of Dream Water containing 150 mg of the SleepStat Blend.

The official Dream Water makes no mention of why you should take the Dream Water Powder over the Sleep Shot, possibly up to user preference.

We would recommend starting with half doses of a sleep aid before taking a full dose to avoid unwanted side effects. Since this sleep aid has 5-HTP which is known to react with certain medications, consult your doctor before using Dream Water.

Dream Water Beauty Reviews

Dream Water has also released another line of Dream Water Beauty bottles.

This beauty sleep water claims to contain the same Dreamwater SleepStat blend but also includes their Beauty Blend for collagen support.

Dream Water Beauty states that it’ll help strengthen nails, improve skin, thicken hair, boost collagen, and reduce eye wrinkles.

Dream Water Beauty Ingredients include the SleepStat Natural Blend of Melatonin, 5-HTP, and GABA as well as ingredients for beauty like hyaluronic acid, bamboo silica extract, juvicol, biotin, and choline bitartrate.

We were unable to find the exact amount of each of these beautifying ingredients in Dream Water Beauty. We assume that these ingredients are also part of a proprietary blend that Dream Water doesn’t disclose.

Dream Water Shark Tank

Dream Water was originally a pitch by Vincent Porpiglia on the popular TV show Shark Tank. This pitch was in an episode during Shark Tank Season One.

Vincent Porpiglia stated that his Dream Water uses no chemicals and that the proprietary blend was a trade secret. At the time, he was currently selling Dream Water for $2.50 a bottle.

At the end of Porpiglia’s pitch, most of the Sharks had backed out, but one Shark offered Porpiglia 400k for 51% equity and the Dream Water Shark Tank deal was made.

Dream Water Recall & Scam

There’s been no reported recall on Dream Water products as they are currently still available for purchase in many retailers.

However, there was a report in 2011 stating that there was a Class Action Lawsuit against Dream Water stating that it was a scam for falsely advertising this sleep water to consumers.

The lawsuit claimed that the Dream Water company did not do any testing with its product and the ingredients are not as safe as the company claims.

There doesn’t seem to be any report of an outcome to this scam lawsuit. However, upon looking at the Dream Water official website, the prices of Dream Water have been reduced slightly since the lawsuit.

Dream Water vs Zzzquil

The main difference between Dream Water vs Zzzquil is that Zzzquil is a drug and Dream Water is made with a proprietary blend of ingredients.

The active drug in Zzzquil is Diphenhydramine HCI, which is actually an antihistamine for allergy relief. It’s generally used to treat allergy symptoms, however, one of its side effects is drowsiness which can help as a sleep aid.

When it comes down to Dream Water and Zzzquil, the choice is up to you whether you want to take a sleep aid drug or sleep water with natural ingredients.

Does Dream Water Work? | Dreamwater Review Summary

Dream Water is a natural sleep aid that claims to help you relax and fall asleep more easily.

However, our research on the individual ingredients of Dreamwater has shown that though Melatonin is an effective ingredient, GABA and 5-HTP aren’t as well-supported. There’s not enough evidence to support that GABA and 5-HTP will aid sleep for humans.

There are also strange discrepancies with the dosing of these ingredients in their SleepStat proprietary blend for both the Dream Water powder and sleep shot. We think there may be some filler ingredients that could cause potential side effects.

Would we recommend Dream Water? No, probably not.

Even though the ingredients seem good for sleep, they aren’t well researched. Despite it being all-natural, Dream Water’s ingredient labeling discrepancies also make us suspicious of what’s in their sleepwater. A good supplement company wouldn’t have to hide their ingredients and we wouldn’t want to risk our health on poorly researched ingredients.
